Complete annealing of die steel consists of heating the die steel to a man (30-50'C above carbon tool steel) or A 50-70'C above (alloy steel), leaving enough time for complete transformation to austenite and compositional homogenization, and then slowly cooling with the furnace, furnace cooling to below 350°C air cooling, to obtain a near-equilibrium organization, the purpose is to reduce the hardness of the die steel for cutting, stress relief and grain refinement, which is a pretreatment for subsequent heat treatment organization preparation process. But the die steel contains more tungsten, phase, vanadium and other alloying elements, in order to make the carbide faster dissolution into austenite, must be correspondingly increased annealing temperature.
